SCHOOLS

Schools are one of our favorite places to bring meaningful design to since they are the hub of children’s lives and learning for so many hours. What should be more important than having an engaging space that has the aesthetics and beauty purposed to the value of their time? From elementary school bathrooms, gyms and libraries, even playgrounds, middle school entries, stairwells, quotes and cafeterias, to high school sports medicine rooms, and more, school design not only uplifts the students, but teacher morale and all who enter!

Loudoun School for Advanced Studies: Yearly Cardboard Mural

“Grow As We Go” + “You Belong to the Earth” Cardboard Murals
Loudoun School for Advanced Studies, Ashburn, VA

Loudoun School for Advanced Studies was one of the few schools that was able to transition quickly back to in person teaching September 2020 just after COVID began.  Choosing their yearly theme to be “Grow as we go” (echoed by the beautiful Ben Platt song!) because both students and teachers alike would be growing together though COVID protocols, Zoom balancing for in-person and at-home students, change of rules and how things are normally done, and all the positive aspects of learning and failing and learning again as well. It also tied in to a newly created beautiful butterfly garden growing right outside a nearby set of windows. This wall was sustainably and responsibly made with recycled cardboard, cut out with a jigsaw and painted then installed with a brad nailer. It provided a beautiful backdrop to the heart of the school & online classes the whole 2020-2021 school year and served a reminder to have grace for ALL of us who are still growing.
