SCHOOLS

Schools are one of our favorite places to bring meaningful design to since they are the hub of children’s lives and learning for so many hours. What should be more important than having an engaging space that has the aesthetics and beauty purposed to the value of their time? From elementary school bathrooms, gyms and libraries, even playgrounds, middle school entries, stairwells, quotes and cafeterias, to high school sports medicine rooms, and more, school design not only uplifts the students, but teacher morale and all who enter!

Sterling Elementary: Entry Surprise

“Jungle Surprise”
Sterling Elementary, Sterling, VA

Fun Places collaborated with students at Loudoun School for Advanced Studies (LSAS) in this months long service project - to secretly work with the principal at Sterling Elementary, a diverse Title 1 school nearby, to design and create an uplifting entrance mural to be installed secretly. LSAS students did a fantastic job, led by Fun Places, to concept, cut, and create over 50’ of panel murals over the winter months. These panels both reflected the Jaguar spirit of the school and shared character traits, in Spanish and English, that educators wanted to instill in students there every day. With only the principal still knowing, LSAS artists secretly installed panels into the entrance during a school day to surprise students with their colorful new gift and stayed around to give high 5’s and see their reaction. It was a WIN for all - a joy to give and a great addition to the school!
